Dragonball Evolution

Thu Apr 9, 2009, 9:56 PM
CAUTION, THE NEXT JOURNAL CONTAINS SPOILERS ABOUT DRAGONBALL EVOLUTION.

During my childhood, as a huge fan of the Dragon Ball franchise, I always wondered if someone could make a live action movie with a decent story, awesome action scenes and special effects.

A few years ago (back in 2007), finally after many years, they were going to film a Dragon Ball movie. My expectations were never that high for the fact that the story is pretty big, there are many characters, between many other things. The movie was going to be filmed where I was born (Durango).

After watching Piccolo's first image, I was speechless. Yellow? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!? So yeah, a single image is more than enough to describe that they weren't taking the story seriously, more like a stand alone movie with the same name of my favorite anime of all time.

Well, at least the fans complained enough to make him green again, but still, it was just wrong. Funny thing the fact that the movie was released in Japan a month before it was released here. Many devoted fans decided to watch the film, and the forums were filled with spoilers.

As I mentioned previously, a friend of mine had a few hopes in the movie, telling me that yeah, perhaps it's not based exactly in Dragon Ball, but perhaps it could work if you take it more like a stand alone film. It didn't.

I read the whole movie in the forums, and it was hilarious, fucking hilarious. I thought "hmmm, well, it might be like 'Manos: The Hands of Fate', a movie so bad, it's actually good (Quentin Tarantino's favorite comedy)".

A friend of mine gave me a site where I could watch the movie online, and gave it a chance. Prepared some pop corn, decided to stay up late, and prepared myself to watch a movie that would make me laugh due to it's horrible storyline, dialogue and mediocre special effects.

Not a single laugh, not even a giggle. The movie was horrendous. Goku being revived by a Kame Hame Ha? Oozaru (Goku's transformation into a giant ape) being a servant of Piccolo? It was just a mess, a horrible mess.

So, in conclusion, it's hard to avoid this movie. Not because of the trailers and all the merchandise there is, but for the fact that every Dragon Ball fan will feel some curiosity and watch this horrible piece of crap.

It's not that horrible when compared to "Disaster Movie", but again, I rather spend my money in other things.

Decent. Worring about finals and trying to find time to type down ideas/my next chapter as well as finding time to spend with my GF before she moves away. Yourself?
